Our new work in Hong Kong–O:Rin and why it is our dream project despite the long-distance.

It’s not just our obsession with Blade-Runner, we really love Hong Kong- and we appreciate the challenges that living in such a jungle of humanity can bring.

Recently, a client came to us with a vision to create a health and wellness studio that stood out against institutional gyms and DIY homespun classes that were typical in the city. “Yasss” we said. “Hong Kong needs you”.

The plan was to deliver a rejuvenating experience that encourages individuals to step away from their busy lives and explore their unique and unfettered identity – encouraging experiences of personalised healing and growth through Pilates, Gyrotonics and Meditation.

We developed the name O:Rin, a play on the word original, to reflect the vision and spirit of the place.

Because we were engaged in the early stages of the business, we were able to closely support O:Rin’s founder as a dedicated creative partner. We provided a full suite of services including brand, concept and narrative development; direction of interior design, material and furniture selection; plus graphic design, signage, naming, copy-writing, video and photography selection.

In developing the digital and branding assets alongside the interior design, close attention was paid to craft a holistic customer journey.

The branding we developed is grounded and authentic, as well as being elegant, modern and uplifting. Its identity and narrative evoke the elevated ethos that the studio offers its practitioners: inclusivity and attention to each individuals’ self-worth and holistic wellbeing. The colours, shapes and materials are organic, warm and nurturing.

O:Rin had the goldilocks formula—clarity of purpose, a love for good design, trust in our expertise, and curiosity to let the brand take shape organically.
Working with Bard Studio on the interior, we ensured the studio space was crafted to provide a consistent and elevating experience that embodies O:Rin’s brand & philosophy. The site’s single window was used to maximum effect and we selected materials, lines and colours that could evoke a natural, healthy, workable and welcoming environment. Finally, we recognised that this is a workspace- and space in Hong Kong is hard to come by. Excellent customer experiences would require fluid functionality and management options, so we designed an adaptive floorplan that creates an effortless sense of order and space but is practicable for a variety of different classes and formats. Go and see for yourself, but we were thrilled with the result.

Special thanks to Karen and the O:Rin team, and all my lovely friends in Hong Kong hosting us during our stay in the wonderful city.
