Gentle Habits (previously “This is Incense”) is an Australian lifestyle goods company that celebrates Australian scents and the coastal lifestyle.

The client came to us for a new strategy, and a new name. They had outgrown This is Incense and planned to expand their product offerings to include new lines in swim, body and home.

All of the products share a goal: to encourage daily mindful living. Studio Chenchen's team were inspired by this core goal and the ethos it envisages. Making everyday life more enjoyable, grounded by simple actions. Self-nurturing rituals are slow and gentle. This led to our renaming for the brand—Gentle Habits.

Gentle Habits,
Positive Outcomes

Our design concept reflected on the Australian landscape and its botany. We went on a study of Australian plants and the work of Margaret Olley, who encapsulated the roughness and gentleness of these native plants.

These inspirations resulted in a gentle but robust-looking logotype.

We aimed to reflect the natural beauty and scents of Australia–the crackle of the fire, the smell of Eucalyptus, a touch of salt on the cool sea breeze. Gentle Habits is our way of celebrating Australia and the places that we love. It evokes the passion, craft, and care that is relied on to unlock moments of pure bliss during daily rituals that let you feel present, grounded, and enraptured by the beauty of life and living.
