EntoZyme

Brief
EntoZyme is an exciting deep-tech startup that is building bio-inspired futures through the power of tiny insects. They fill an important and challenging niche that is crucial to realising a future economy that is circular and bio-based. They do it by combining genetic engineering expertise with the emerging use of Black Soldier Flies (BSF) as a cheap, effective and low impact approach to bioprocessing waste. EntoZyme creates a step-change in the potential of these bug-powered factories- programming insects to function like biofactories that can process specific types of waste and produce high-value products. Doing so replaces huge swaths of problematic supply chains that industry now relies upon for the same raw materials.

EntoZyme has deep technical and scientific knowledge, and a clear view of the values and vision through which they want to run their business.

Nudging natural systems for genius results.

We worked with EntoZyme and their early funders to distil this into a brand. We applied our efficient and collaborative brand strategy process to capture who they are and translate this into a unique creative concept. Rolling this out across an initial but scalable set of assets has let EntoZyme present their best selves to investors, partners, and the media, helping them generate the excitement, interest, and trust that they deserve.
Our creative concept for EntoZyme leans into the materiality and ethos of their work- it is centered on the idea of approaching engineering with an organic logic, where science and industry is applied in ways that nudge natural systems, rather than deconstruct them.

We ‘own’ the juicy, creepy gritty aesthetics of nature doing its thing and we complement it with sophisticated design cues to reflect the research and engineering excellence of the team. There’s an edge, and authenticity in embracing the bits that people might find too ‘real’ and unsanitised in 20th century manufacturing- it shows the rapid growth that’s possible.
Visually, we bring the concept to life through a confident use of organic structures, deliberate use of colour, typography, icons, imagery and video, along with curated sounds and graphic frames.

Graphic frames can bring control, play with the observer's sense of scale, and offer hints and reflections of what the business excels in- from their use of CRISPR and genetic coding to the larvae and bugs whose appetite and biological outputs are the secret to massive results and potential. Animations and imagery show voracious, compounding growth and the intricate patterns that natural systems offer in this ecological expression of biotechnological change.
One example is the bespoke typography we created, taking inspiration from Zhu Yingchun’s The Language of Bugs, to make EntoZyme’s deep work with insects a visual part of the brand. We animated this in digital formats to bring the brand to life.

Animations and imagery show voracious, compounding growth and the intricate patterns that natural systems offer in this ecological expression of biotechnological change.

In developing the brand strategy, we helped the team form and identify their collective values and vision, and contributed to the narrative of the brand, offering copywriting, key messages and brand-aligned infographics that carry an assertive tone of voice and clear narratives to reflect the technology’s huge potential and the team’s solid credentials.
